Ghiyath Shah ruled Malwa from 1469 until his death in 1500, and his reign is unusually well-documented for a regional Indian sultanate — partly because he actively cultivated Persian literary culture and left behind the Ni'matnama, a cookbook-manuscript that recorded court life in striking detail. The gold tankas of his later issues, including this type, were struck during a period of genuine prosperity; Malwa controlled profitable trade routes between Gujarat and the Deccan, and the treasury was solvent enough to sustain consistent gold coinage across three decades.
The Fr#645 attribution places this piece within Frédéric's broader corpus of Indian Islamic gold, though Goron and Goenka's classification remains the more granular reference for Malwa specifically.
