Beschrijving voorzijde Obverse field entirely occupied by a multi-line Arabic legend in dense Naskh script, struck on a small, irregularly shaped flan typical of mid-14th century Tughluq billon coinage. The inscription reads the name and title of Fath Khan bin Firoz Shah, invoking divine favour upon his sovereignty. Letters are boldly rendered but show characteristic die-struck distortion at the margins due to the hammered technique. No figural or geometric devices are present; the entire design is calligraphic in character. The field is slightly convex with a plain, undefined rim.

Aanvullende informatie

Fath Khan never ruled. He died before his father, Firoz Shah Tughluq, making this tanka an oddity — coins struck in the name of a prince who predeceased the sultan and never ascended the throne. Firoz, who reigned from 1351 to 1388, was unusual among Delhi sultans in authorizing coinage for his heir apparent, a practice with no strong precedent in the Tughluq dynasty.

The billon composition reflects Firoz's reign-long debasement of the silver coinage, a deliberate policy tied to the fiscal pressures of his extensive canal-building programs and welfare expenditures.
