Fath Khan never ruled. He died before his father, Firoz Shah Tughluq, making this tanka an oddity — coins struck in the name of a prince who predeceased the sultan and never ascended the throne. Firoz, who reigned from 1351 to 1388, was unusual among Delhi sultans in authorizing coinage for his heir apparent, a practice with no strong precedent in the Tughluq dynasty.
The billon composition reflects Firoz's reign-long debasement of the silver coinage, a deliberate policy tied to the fiscal pressures of his extensive canal-building programs and welfare expenditures.
