Alwar's copper coinage of this period occupied an awkward administrative position: the state was technically obligated under British paramountcy to align its currency with imperial standards, yet continued striking its own issues through the 1870s under Sheodan Singh, whose relationship with the colonial authorities was notoriously strained. He was ultimately deposed in 1874 following British intervention over allegations of cruelty — making the window for this issue remarkably narrow.
