Obverse description The obverse displays the Peruvian national coat of arms at center, comprising a quartered shield bearing a vicuña in the upper left canton, a cinchona tree in the upper right, and a cornucopia spilling coins in the lower half, all surmounted by a laurel and palm wreath tied at the base with a ribbon. The shield is flanked by palm fronds to the left and a bunch of cinchona branches to the right, the whole supported by a laurel wreath knotted at the base. The circular legend reads BANCO CENTRAL DE RESERVA DEL PERU, with the fineness designation 9 DECIMOS FINO and the date 1976 arranged around the border.

Reverse description The reverse features a bold depiction of the Obelisk of Quinua (Pampa de Ayacucho monument) at center, rising from a stepped stone base set upon a rocky outcrop, commemorating the decisive 1824 battle that secured South American independence. To the left of the obelisk appears the denomination legend UN and to the right SOL DE ORO in incuse block lettering. The mint mark M appears below the central device. The surrounding circular legend reads SESQUICENTENARIO DE LA BATALLA DE AYACUCHO - PAMPA DE QUINUA A LA GLORIA DE AYACUCHO, with the commemorative date range PERU 1824-1974 inscribed in the lower segment, flanked by small star ornaments.
