The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the facial features, beard, and regalia. A beaded inner border frames the entire design.

Popis rubu	A tall, detailed palm tree occupies the center of the field, its trunk dividing the date 19-36 to either side, with the word SPECIMEN inscribed above the date. Tropical ground cover and vegetation are depicted at the base of the palm tree. The design is enclosed within a circular border with ornate scroll flourishes at the lower left and right. The legend BRITISH WEST AFRICA arcs around the upper periphery, while ONE SHILLING curves along the lower margin, all within a beaded border.
