Obverse description Central field bears the crowned shield of ducal Saxony — barry of ten or and sable with a crancelin or bend sinister vert — supported from above by a facing angel whose spread wings extend to either side of the escutcheon. The angel's head, rendered in high relief, rises above the upper edge of the shield, giving the composition its characteristic Engelgroschen appearance. A beaded inner border frames the central device, with the circumferential Latin legend distributed evenly around the periphery. The coin exhibits characteristic hammered manufacture, with a small suspension hole pierced near the upper rim.
