| Opis awersu | Central fully-lined shield with flat corners bearing the arms of the Livonian Order, superimposed over a long cross whose arms extend to the inner beaded circle, dividing the surrounding circular legend into four sections. The shield displays the characteristic horizontal line pattern associated with this variety. The legend, rendered in Gothic lettering, is interrupted by the four arms of the cross and reads in abbreviated Latin referencing the Master's name and title. Hermann von Brüggeneye served as Master of the Livonian Order from 1535 until his death in 1549, governing a polity caught between the deteriorating Teutonic Order structure to the west and growing pressure from Muscovite expansion under Ivan III's successors to the east. The Livonian Order's minting activity in Riga during this period was partly an assertion of administrative function in a region where political coherence was already fraying — within three decades of this coin's production, the Order would dissolve entirely following its catastrophic defeat at the Battle of Ergeme in 1560.
The variety distinction — flat corners with full lines — is a die classification recorded by Haljak and reflects the close attribution work necessary to differentiate the dense output of Riga schillings from this mastership.
