Obverse description The Latvian state coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield with a rising sun in the upper half and a lion passant and a griffin passant in the lower two quarters, flanked on either side by ribbon-tied laurel branches. Three five-pointed stars arc above the shield, symbolizing the three historical regions of Latvia. The legend LATVIJA is inscribed on a curved ribbon banner below the shield. The overall design is rendered in a bold, deeply struck relief characteristic of the early Republican coinage.

Reverse description The numeral '1' is prominently displayed in the upper portion of the field in a large, stylized art nouveau script, accompanied below by the denomination legend 'Santims' rendered in flowing cursive lettering. The four-digit date appears beneath the denomination. A small decorative scroll motif is situated at the base of the field, and the engraver's signature R. ZARIŅŠ appears in small letters along the lower rim. The overall typographic design reflects the distinctive artistic sensibility of Rihards Zariņš.
