This characteristic quartered-square design, a hallmark of Afghan rupees of the Barakzai period, is rendered in bold relief against a flat field. The compartments contain the Kalima or additional royal titulature distributed across the divisions. The flan edges are irregular, consistent with hand-struck production at a local Afghan mint. |
