| Obverse description | Central field occupied by large, boldly struck Arabic calligraphic inscription naming the ruler Muhammad Afzal, rendered in the fluid nastaliq style characteristic of Afghan hammered coinage of the period. A decorative pellet-bordered cartouche or floral ornament appears to the left of the main legend, serving as a decorative device. The irregular flan and hand-struck technique produce a slightly off-centre strike with the legend filling most of the available field. Dotted borders or pellet ornaments frame portions of the inscription, consistent with Barakzai dynasty coinage conventions. |
