Reverse description The quartered shield of the arms of Mauritius occupies the centre of the field, displaying in the upper-left quarter a ship under sail with crossed anchors, in the upper-right quarter three palm trees, in the lower-left quarter a key, and in the lower-right quarter a radiating star. The engraver's initials 'K G' appear beneath the shield, flanking it on either side. The date is divided by the shield, with '19' to the left and '50' (or '51') to the right, each pair separated from the shield by ornamental devices. The legend 'MAURITIUS' arcs across the upper field and 'ONE RUPEE' curves along the lower field, both separated by decorative stops. A beaded border surrounds the entire design.
