Selim III's reform program, the Nizam-ı Cedid, was financed partly through aggressive manipulation of the billon coinage issued across Ottoman dependencies, including Tunis. The Beylik struck these rials under its semi-autonomous monetary authority, and the omission of the regnal year — the "sanah" — distinguishes this subtype from KM#72.1, likely reflecting a deliberate die preparation shortcut rather than a policy change.
Billon content varied considerably across this period as the Tunisian treasury struggled with silver shortages exacerbated by Mediterranean trade disruption during the French Revolutionary Wars.
