Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse presents a bold, open-field design dominated by the large Eastern Arabic numeral ١ (one) at centre, with the denomination legend 'ريال عُمان' (Oman Rial) inscribed above in flowing Arabic script. The Hijri year ١٤٠٠ appears beneath the numeral, and the legend 'سلطنة عُمان' (Sultanate of Oman) is inscribed in the lower field. Flanking the central numeral to the left and right are two smaller renditions of the national crossed-khanjar emblem, adding symmetrical heraldic decoration to the composition.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued to mark the tenth anniversary of Sultan Qaboos bin Said's accession, which followed his July 1970 palace coup against his own father, Said bin Taimur. The elder Sultan had ruled Oman in near-total isolation — banning radios, eyeglasses, and travel abroad — leaving the country with only three schools and ten kilometers of paved road at the time of his removal.

The .917 fine gold standard places this squarely in the British sovereign tradition, a deliberate choice for a state still heavily dependent on UK financial and military relationships in 1980.
