| 背面描述 | A springbok in full leap is depicted in the centre of the field, rendered in fine relief above a ground line of native grasses. The denomination numeral 1 appears prominently in the upper left, with the word RAND to its right. The Latin motto SOLI DEO GLORIA (Glory to God Alone) is inscribed in a straight line across the lower field beneath the springbok. The engraver's initials LL are incused at the lower left, just above the ground line. |

South Africa's eleven official languages created an unusual obligation for the mint: rotating the language of inscription across the coinage series so that no single group held permanent precedence. Xitsonga — the language of the Tsonga people concentrated in Limpopo and Mpumalanga — appears here as "Afrika-Dzonga," one of the less frequently encountered language variants in circulation, simply because speakers represent a smaller share of the national population and coins wear out unevenly across regions.
