| Obverse description | Central field bearing the papal arms of Gregory XIII within an oval shield surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys, all executed in the crude, low-relief style characteristic of hammered billon coinage of the period. The shield displays the Boncompagni family device. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery of the irregularly shaped flan, partially weak due to the hammered striking technique. The overall design reflects the provincial workshop standards of the Fano mint under pontifical authority. |
