Obverse description The full coat of arms of the Republic of Biafra occupies the central field, comprising a shield divided into two quarters: the upper quarter bearing a rising sun with radiating rays, and the lower quarter displaying a stylised triquetra or Y-shaped symbol. Two leopards serve as supporters, one to each side of the shield, with an eagle with wings displayed as crest above, perched on a torse. A ribbon scroll beneath the shield bears the motto PEACE·UNITY·FREEDOM. The arms are flanked by two sprays of olive or palm branches tied at the base, and the circumferential legend REPUBLIC OF BIAFRA arcs around the upper portion of the coin, with the date 1969 in the lower exergue.
