| 背面描述 | The reverse displays the circular Latin legend ORDO HOSP HIERVSALE, an abbreviated reference to the Ordo Hospitalis Hierosolymitani — the Order of the Hospital of Jerusalem — distributed around the field. The central area of the reverse is largely plain, with the legend serving as the primary design element. The flan shows pronounced irregularities and surface porosity consistent with hammered copper coinage of the sixteenth century. Strike quality is typical of the smallest denominations issued by the Order, where die detail is often weak and legends partially legible. The piece displays a natural dark copper patina with areas of green cuprite corrosion. |

Pietro del Monte Ferrari served as Grand Master from 1568 to 1572, a tenure defined almost entirely by the immediate aftermath of the Great Siege of 1565. The Order's finances were severely strained by rebuilding efforts — Valletta was still under construction — and the picciolo functioned as the lowest denomination coin for daily transactions among laborers, soldiers, and the local Maltese population. Copper coinage of this period circulated hard and was rarely preserved with care.
The Schembri reference places this as the first catalogued type of Monte's copper issues.
