Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield divided into three sections: the upper portion features a golden key between two rocky promontories symbolizing Cuba's strategic position, the middle section displays a rising sun over a seascape, and the lower section bears a royal palm tree on a plain. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap mounted on a fasces, and flanked by symmetrical sprays of oak and laurel branches. The legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper periphery, with the denomination 1 PESO inscribed along the lower rim, flanked by a five-pointed star on either side.
