A finely engraved vignette of the bank building occupies the left portion, surrounded by elaborate scrollwork and guilloche borders. At centre, ornate Victorian lettering spells out the bank name, flanked by a shield-shaped guilloche underprint and a standing figure of a crowned king to the right, with the denomination 'UN PESO' and promise text 'A LA VISTA EN EFECTIVO AL PORTADOR' inscribed across the lower register; three manuscript signatures appear below for the Interventor del Gobierno, Consejero, and Gerente. |

El Banco de San Luis Potosí operated under the 1897 Ley General de Instituciones de Crédito, which granted concessions to state banks while keeping them nominally subordinate to federal oversight — an arrangement that held until the Revolution systematically dismantled the entire concession banking structure. By 1914, the Constitutionalist forces under Carranza had effectively voided the operating authority of most state banks, making late issues like this one legally precarious at the moment of printing.
The American Book & Printing Co. in Mexico City handled a number of provincial emergency issues during this period, stepping in where foreign security printers were no longer practical to reach.
