Descrizione del dritto	The obverse presents a sunburst vignette in the upper left corner, surrounded by an ornate guilloche underprint covering the entire field. The upper portion carries the authority inscriptions 'REPUBLICA de COLOMBIA' and 'Departamento de Santander', with the large denomination legend 'UN PESO' in bold letterpress across the upper centre. A promise-to-pay text in Spanish script reads 'pagará al portador UN PESO en los términos del Decreto de 27 de Octubre de 1899', with '1' numeral counters at the lower corners flanked by decorative floral ornaments, and the issuing authority 'EL TESORERO GENERAL' identified along the central band.

Descrizione del rovescio	The reverse is printed in a single dark ink on plain paper stock, bearing a rectangular border of fine typographic ornaments. The central text, set in letterpress, states the government's obligation to accept the note as legal tender (moneda corriente) in payment of taxes and contributions, and commits to its exchange at the Tesorería General del Departamento for Banco Nacional notes within six months of the date; the text concludes with the place and date 'Bucaramanga, 1° de Noviembre de 1899' and the title 'El Tesorero General del Departamento', below which appears a manuscript signature.
