Bellreguart is a small municipality in the comarca of La Safor, Valencia, and this note is one of hundreds of emergency fractional issues that flooded the Republican zone from 1936 onward as metallic coinage effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply too scarce to meet daily transaction needs. Local councils, cooperatives, and trade unions across Catalonia and Valencia were left to fill the gap themselves, with no standardized approach to design, security, or redemption.
The Turró and Garímon references place it within a well-documented but enormous corpus. Individual municipal issues from towns this size were typically printed in very limited runs and redeemed locally, making survival rates genuinely low.
