MACGREGOR above 320, / GEORGE STREET / SYDNEY, all in bold serif capital letters. The central text is enclosed within a fine beaded inner border, creating a concentric frame. The outer legend THE CITY TEA WAREHOUSE curves along the upper periphery, while the continuation of the merchant's name and address fills the lower arc, the whole bounded by a prominent milled denticle border. A small decorative floral ornament appears at the base of the coin, serving as a full stop to the circular legend. The design is purely commercial in nature, with no figurative or allegorical imagery, consistent with Australian colonial tradesmen's tokens of the 1850s–1860s. |

The date 1855, denoting the year of establishment of the Sultan's Steam Coffee Works, appears below the shield in bold numerals. The outer legend reads THE SULTAN'S STEAM COFFEE WORKS curving along the upper field, with ESTABLISHED to the upper interior and SYDNEY along the lower arc, all separated by small star ornaments. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner border and a milled denticle rim. The engraving style is competent and consistent with the work of W.J. Taylor of London, the noted producer of Australian colonial tokens. |
