| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse displays the colonial arms of New South Wales as the central device: a quartered shield bearing a lion passant and stars, surmounted by a rising sun and flanked by a kangaroo as dexter supporter and an emu as sinister supporter, with a scroll beneath inscribed ADVANCE AUSTRALIA. The date 1855, denoting the year of establishment of the Sultan's Steam Coffee Works, appears below the shield in bold numerals. The outer legend reads THE SULTAN'S STEAM COFFEE WORKS curving along the upper field, with ESTABLISHED to the upper interior and SYDNEY along the lower arc, all separated by small star ornaments. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner border and a milled denticle rim. The engraving style is competent and consistent with the work of W.J. Taylor of London, the noted producer of Australian colonial tokens. |
