Vulci was among the wealthiest Etruscan cities of the fourth century BC, its prosperity built largely on bronze-working and a trade network stretching across the Mediterranean. That it struck silver at all is notable — most Etruscan cities relied on bronze coinage, and Vulci's silver issues were produced in limited quantities, almost certainly for specific transactional or prestige purposes rather than everyday exchange. The series is poorly documented, which explains the absent Vecchi-I reference number on this piece.
