The Guerrero Aguila series was part of Mexico's broader push in the early 1990s to establish fractional silver bullion coinage alongside the better-known Libertad issues. The design draws on pre-Columbian iconography specific to the Guerrero region, distinguishing it from the nationalist Libertad program and giving the series a distinctly archaeological character.
KM#644 had a limited production run and was not widely distributed through international bullion channels, keeping it largely outside the awareness of collectors outside Mexico.
