Frederik V came to the Danish throne in 1746 following the death of Christian VI, whose austere pietism had suppressed court culture for decades. The new king's reign brought a deliberate loosening — artistically and politically — and the coinage reforms of the late 1740s reflect that shift toward a more confident, outward-facing monarchy.
