Below the shield, a ribbon or band bearing the pendant of the Order of the Elephant intertwines with the lower portions of the branches. The pendant divides the four-digit date, with two numerals appearing to each side. Two lines of legend appear above the shield, the upper being the royal titles and the lower, set in a smaller character size, bearing the king's personal motto. |

Frederik V came to the Danish throne in 1746 following the death of Christian VI, whose austere pietism had suppressed court culture for decades.
