Obverse description Full-length frontal figure of Saint Ambrose, patron saint of Milan, depicted in episcopal vestments including a mitre and cope adorned with small crosses, raising his right hand in benediction and holding a crozier in his left hand. The saint stands between two stylised Milanese towers or city gates in the lower field, rendered in a Romanesque manner characteristic of early 14th-century Italian hammered coinage. A beaded inner border frames the design, with the circular legend in Gothic uncial lettering running along the periphery. The overall composition reflects the Venetian grosso tradition adapted to Milanese civic and religious iconography.
