Henry IX ruled Reuss-Greiz during a period when the tiny principality was still issuing its own coinage despite chronic fiscal pressure from the costs of maintaining a court disproportionate to its territory. The Reuss counts famously named every male heir Heinrich — a tradition dating to the 12th century — making numismatic attribution within the dynasty almost entirely dependent on regnal numbers rather than name differentiation.
The two-year window of this issue likely reflects a specific minting contract rather than a reign boundary.
