Ulrich of Manderscheid's tenure as Archbishop of Trier was itself legally contested — he was the chapter's elected candidate but never received papal confirmation, placing him in direct conflict with Rome throughout his administration. His coinage was struck during this period of disputed authority, which makes pieces attributable to his rule genuinely unusual survivals from an ecclesiastical office that Rome formally refused to recognize.
Noss Tr#451 is among the rarer attributions in the Trier goldgulden sequence.
