Obverse description Central device depicts the Hamburg civic arms: a crowned white castle with three towers surmounted by a cross, set upon a divided orb, all enclosed within a crescent moon and flanked by six-pointed stars in the field. The design is rendered in bold relief characteristic of mid-15th century German hammered goldgulden production. A beaded inner circle separates the central device from the surrounding circumferential legend. The circular legend in Gothic uncial characters reads + ALBERTVS ROMAnORV REX, identifying Albert II as King of the Romans, punctuated by pellets. The overall flan is slightly irregular, consistent with hand-struck coinage of the period.
