The shield is flanked by decorative mantling rendered in the Renaissance style typical of papal coinage of the period. The circular legend, struck in Roman capitals, reads ·PAVLVS·III· ·PONT·MAX·, identifying Pope Paul III as Supreme Pontiff. The coin was produced by the hammered technique, resulting in a slightly irregular flan with a rope-like border visible at the rim. |
