The obverse preserves a portion of the facing royal portrait, with visible lines suggesting the schematic crown and facial features rendered in the crude, formulaic style of 13th-century Irish coinage. Pellets and angular die-cut lines occupy the field, consistent with the Class 2a type. The moneyer's inscription, partially preserved along the curved border, reads RICARD ON DIVE, identifying the issuing moneyer as Richard of Dublin. Pellets are visible within the triangular field sections defined by the cross arms, and the border retains traces of the encircling beaded rim typical of hammered Irish issues of this period.
