Obverse description The obverse field is entirely occupied by a multi-line Arabic legend in Naskh script, arranged in three or four horizontal registers across the flan. The inscription, reading 'al-sultan al-a'zam nasir al-dunya wa'l-din' (the most exalted sultan, defender of the world and the faith), is boldly struck in high relief against a flat, undecorated field. The lettering exhibits the characteristically compact and slightly irregular style typical of hammered copper coinage of the Gujarat Sultanate. The flan is irregular in shape with a slightly raised rim, and the surfaces display a patina of green and brown consistent with age and circulation.
