| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a large quartered and subdivided coat of arms of Anhalt-Bernburg, surmounted by an ornate princely crown. The shield displays multiple heraldic divisions incorporating the characteristic eagle and bear devices of the Anhalt territories. The circular legend reads in abbreviated Latin, identifying the ruler as Victor Friedrich, by the grace of God Prince of Anhalt, Duke of Saxony, Angria, and Westphalia, Count of Ascania, Lord of Bernburg and Zerbst. Mintmaster's initials appear in the lower field. |

The bear wears a crown upon its head and is depicted with naturalistic musculature in high relief. The motto PERRUMPENDUM, meaning 'It must be broken through,' is inscribed in the upper field in a curved arc, reflecting the dynastic device of the House of Anhalt-Bernburg. |

Victor II Friedrich ruled Anhalt-Bernburg from 1718 until his death in 1765, a reign long enough to see ducat production span three decades under his name. The Mann references here split across two catalog numbers, reflecting known die variation within the series — Mann#579 and Mann#587 are distinct emissions, likely separated by a revision to the portrait or titulature rather than a change in monetary standard.
Anhalt-Bernburg was among the smallest of the Anhalt partition states, and its gold output was accordingly limited. Ducats from this mint were struck in small quantities against a backdrop of chronic financial strain common to the minor German principalities of the period.
