Greece minted this drachma under the military junta that seized power in April 1967, meaning the majority of this date range was produced under a regime that had suspended the constitution and ruled by decree. Constantine II himself attempted a counter-coup against the colonels in December 1967; it failed within days, and he fled to Rome. Coins bearing his name continued to be struck for two more years after his exile, a bureaucratic inertia that makes the later dates a quiet footnote to one of the more embarrassing episodes in modern Greek royal history.
