A Sogdian legend reading 'King of Bukhara' appears in the field before the face, while an Arabic inscription reading 'al-Mahdi' is placed behind the head. The iconography closely imitates the earlier Bukhara drachm type, blending Central Asian artistic conventions with Abbasid dynastic identification. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | A fire altar with the bust or head of Ahura Mazda rendered in profile to the right occupies the center of the coin, directly imitating the Sasanian and post-Sasanian Bukharan drachm reverse type. Flanking the altar on both sides stand two mobed (Zoroastrian priestly attendant) figures, each facing inward toward the altar in the traditional manner. The overall composition faithfully reproduces the pagan Zoroastrian reverse iconography inherited through the Bukharan monetary tradition, despite the coin's Abbasid Islamic issuing authority. |
