| Obverse description | Diademed and crowned bust of ruler facing right, with a crescent surmounted by a dot above the crown, in the Sasanian-derived style characteristic of Bukharan coinage. A Sogdian legend reading 'King of Bukhara' appears in the field before the face, while an Arabic inscription reading 'al-Mahdi' is placed behind the head. The iconography closely imitates the earlier Bukhara drachm type, blending Central Asian artistic conventions with Abbasid dynastic identification. |
