背面描述 A dynamic, color-enhanced design depicting two Mitsubishi A6M Zero-Sen carrier-based fighter aircraft in flight, one in close three-quarter view in the foreground with its distinctive radial engine and elliptical wings prominently rendered, and a second aircraft visible in the upper background. A colored panel across the lower portion of the field provides atmospheric depth suggesting sky and horizon. The series title FIGHTER PLANES OF WWII appears in the upper left arc of the field, the Perth Mint's P mintmark is positioned to the right, and the bold inscriptions MITSUBISHI A6M and ZERO-SEN appear in the lower field.

附加信息

Issued as part of Perth Mint's long-running Australia at War series, this piece commemorates the Mitsubishi A6M Zero, the carrier-based fighter that opened the Pacific War at Pearl Harbor and Darwin in late 1941 and early 1942. The Zero's early dominance was partly a product of a deliberate Japanese design trade-off: armor and self-sealing fuel tanks were stripped out to achieve the aircraft's exceptional range and maneuverability, a decision that made it lethal in 1941 and catastrophically vulnerable by 1943 once Allied pilots learned to avoid turning engagements.
