| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse features the fourth portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, facing right, as engraved by Ian Rank-Broadley, positioned at the upper centre of the field above a large rectangular aperture piercing the coin. A continuous beaded border frames the entire design. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper left, with the date 2008 to the upper right, while the inscriptions AUSTRALIA and 1 DOLLAR are arranged along the lower arc, all in raised Latin lettering. The engraver's initials IRB appear below the effigy. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse is divided into two distinct zones by a horizontal rule, with a large rectangular aperture occupying the central field. Above the aperture, the legend RUM REBELLION arcs in prominent raised lettering, accompanied by an ornate scrollwork cartouche rendered in the pad-printed colour technique. Below the horizontal rule, the commemorative date 1808 is displayed in bold numerals flanked by decorative foliate scroll motifs, all set against a polished mirror field. A small mintmaster's mark appears to the lower left of the aperture. The overall design commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Rum Rebellion, the only successful armed takeover of government in Australian history. |
