Obverse lettering ELIZABETH II 2008 AUSTRALIA 1 DOLLAR IRB
Reverse description The reverse is divided into two distinct zones by a horizontal rule, with a large rectangular aperture occupying the central field. Above the aperture, the legend RUM REBELLION arcs in prominent raised lettering, accompanied by an ornate scrollwork cartouche rendered in the pad-printed colour technique. Below the horizontal rule, the commemorative date 1808 is displayed in bold numerals flanked by decorative foliate scroll motifs, all set against a polished mirror field. A small mintmaster's mark appears to the lower left of the aperture. The overall design commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Rum Rebellion, the only successful armed takeover of government in Australian history.
