Reverse description Central field bearing a six-pointed star (hexagram) in raised relief, formed by two interlaced triangles, with small annulets decorating the interstices between the points. Arabic inscription in the field within the star carries the continuation of the Shahada and the mint name Mecca (ضرب بمكة). The beaded border runs along the irregular polygonal edge of the flan, consistent with the hammered coinage style of the Sharifate of Mecca. The overall fabric is typical of medieval Islamic dirhams struck at the Holy City.
