The legends, struck in bold relief, reference the name of the Hammudid ruler Yahya ibn Ali in whose name the coin was issued, following Fatimid-influenced formulaic conventions. The irregular flan shows evidence of clipping and surface porosity, typical of hammered silver dirhams from the western Maghrib. A faint marginal inscription may have been present but is largely off-flan or worn away. The overall die execution reflects the regional mint practice of Fès during the mid-11th century CE. |
