Obverse description Central design featuring a bundle of arrows arranged in a saltire or cross pattern, with the arrowheads visible at the upper angles. The initials 'B' and 'A' (for Sebastião I, Rei de Portugal) appear in the left and right fields respectively, flanking the central motif. The overall composition is crudely executed in the hammered tradition of colonial Portuguese tin-lead coinage, with an irregular flan typical of issues struck at the Malacca Mint. The field surface is flat and undecorated beyond the primary device.
