The legend 'الجمهورية العراقية' (Republic of Iraq) curves along the upper periphery in stylized Arabic calligraphy, while the commemorative inscription 'أحياء بابل أثريا واجب وطني و قومي و انساني' (The archaeological revival of Babylon is a national, pan-Arab and humanitarian duty) extends across the lower field. The entire design is contained within the ten-sided flan, with a reeded border running along the outer edge.
