The legend is rendered in a bold, somewhat rough naskh hand characteristic of Mughal copper coinage. Akbar died in 1605, and coinage struck in his name continued to circulate — and in some mints, to be produced — well into the reigns of his successors. The Ajmer mint operated under Jahangir during this period, and posthumous or transitional issues attributable to regnal years 1024–1025 AH reflect the administrative inertia of a vast empire whose monetary machinery did not stop at a ruler's death. Ajmer held particular strategic weight as a Mughal stronghold in Rajputana, anchoring imperial authority in a region never fully subdued.
