| Obverse description | Bare-headed left-facing effigy of King George VI, modelled in high relief with finely detailed hair and facial features, occupying the central field. The portrait is the work of engraver Thomas Humphrey Paget, whose initials 'HP' appear in small incuse letters at the truncation below the king's neck. The encircling Latin legend reads GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP., separated by raised dots, running from the lower left around the upper rim to the lower right. |

| Reverse description | A large, centrally placed St. Edward's Crown dominates the reverse field, rendered in bold relief with intricate detailing including fleurs-de-lis, a cross pattée surmounting an orb at the apex, and a beaded band with decorative panel motifs along the base. The designer George Kruger Gray's initials 'KG' appear to the right of the crown's base. The inscription COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA arcs around the upper periphery, while the denomination ONE CROWN and the date 1938 are disposed in two lines beneath the crown, all separated by raised dots and a small cross atop the legend. |
