The central device is enclosed within a raised beaded inner circle, with the legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE arcing along the upper periphery between two beaded borders. The mint mark A and engraver's initials A.B appear in the lower field of the inner circle, with the date 1888 prominently displayed in the lower exergual area outside the inner circle. |
