The effigy occupies the central field, showing the king with a distinctive profile and what appears to be a simple crown or diadem. The circumferential Latin legend FERRANDVS REX runs around the periphery, partially separated by a beaded inner border. The die workmanship is typical of the L'Aquila mint output of the second half of the fifteenth century, with irregular flan edges and uneven strike pressure evident. |

The horse stands above a horizontal ground line dividing the field. The circumferential Latin legend EQVITAS REGNI, with a mint mark or initial T for the L'Aquila mint, runs around the periphery, separated from the central device by a beaded inner border. The denomination name Cavallo (horse) is directly reflected in this equine type, which served as the emblematic device of this series throughout Ferdinando I's reign. |
